Although I have no photos (which sucks), I spun fire in two new states. And I'm visiting another new state (well, I've been there before but not with poi) in August. So 4 states total so far. I am now on a new mission to spin fire in as many new locations as possible. It's a bit silly and may not last, because it's a hassle to buy new kero and other equipment in each place. But the folks in Tennessee and New York (oh, man! I just realized that I could have added Connecticut to my list also, but didn't! just did glow socks there!) were entertained. My mother practically begged me not to do it; she was too worried that I would light myself on fire and she wouldn't be able to watch. But she got over it, and eventually admitted it was cool. But she still says the glow socks are just as cool.
EDIT: Because I can understand in my head, but not necessarily my heart, that my mother will never read this, I hesitated to put this in earlier. But I have to. I now have my first fire spinning burn. I don't think it will last, looks like the blanket lines in one's face or arm when one sleeps too hard. But it still counts. I have the outlines of three layers of kevlar on the inside of my forearm. The best I can reconstruct, it happened during a reverse buzzsaw, trying a wrap transition into a dragonfly buzzsaw (where the two poi are going opposite directions); I can do them decently, but I'd had a couple of glasses of wine. I normally would never drink before a light-up, but my "persona" with my mum's friends is as a drinker, so I felt that I couldn't say no. Especially when Bob had bought a bottle of red wine specially for me. A good lesson. How do I define myself vs. how do others define me. To me, my poi spinner persona is more important, and I stopped drinking around 15-20 minutes before the anticipated 'performance.' I should have believed in myself enough to say no period.

And always go for your own persona!!! Or, at least, as close to it as you can manage and still maintain some facade of courtesy.
